Q. With regard to providing — what was the goal — as you understood it, what was the purpose of the kind of goal in taking this to the FBI from Mr. Steele's perspective?

MR. LEVY: Beyond what he's said already?

MS. SAWYER: Yes.

A. I mean, for him it was professional obligations. I mean, for both of us it was citizenship. You know, people report crimes all the time.

Q. So beyond reporting — certainly if I'm mischaracterizing please let me know, but beyond reporting what he believed was an issue of national security and a potential crime, I think you had said kind of a potential crime in progress, do you know whether he requested that the FBI open an investigation?

A. I don't know that. I mean, all he told me in the immediate aftermath was that he filled him in. I can talk generally about the FBI and what happens when you give them information because I know that from years of experience, but generally, you know, you don't ask them to do it. There's no
