Madrigal

MADRIGAL

O world gone blind and full of false deceits,
Deadly’s the poison with thy joys connected,
O treacherous thou, and guileful and suspected:
Sure he is mad who for thy checks retreats
And for scant nothing loseth that green prize
Which over-gleans all other loveliness;

Wherefore the wise man scorns thee at all hours
When he would taste the fruit of pleasant flowers.
