Besides these there were, in 1895, 1,155 creches, Kindergartens, &c. , with 125,877 children, 202 orphanages, &c., with 14,153 children, and 1,486 poor- houses ( Versorgungs-Anstalten), with 43,055 inmates. The expenditure for the poor-houses alone was 3,320,511 florins, or 0'40 florin per head, per day.
