The efficiency of the reaction turbine must be studied by taking the machine as a whole, since the action is continuous from the first to the last row of vanes and the losses through leakage, fric- tion, etc., are such that no estimate of efficiency can be made by calculating the efficiency of any one set of guide and moving vanes. The efficiency can only be determined by experiment.
