In addition, we have also many other works which are of use for purposes of examination and comparison in compiling the history of Bangkok. The Council of the Royal Library is making a collection of them.

If we had many industrious helpers in om work of historical research, I believe we could produce a history which would compare not unfavourably with those of other countries.

[Note. — In the Evidence on Ayuddhya, lately published (p. 69), we find the following explanation given with regard to the history of Siam:— "After Khun Jinaraj (about C.E. 891) had ascended the throne, he ordered all the old histories and records to be thrown into the water or to be burned, and that is the reason why the history is in many parts defective" — O.
