Browne & Nolan’s Announcements

A History of Irish Music By Wo. H. Grattan FLoop. In the Press. The First Principles of Harmony By S. S. Myerscouen, Mus. Bac. (Oxon). During the last few years the Author has studied many harmony text-books in order to adopt one for his classes. Some of these are well suited for advanced Students, but no work was found which could be honestly recommended for beginners, and for those (a large number) who have ‘‘some idea of dominant 7ths and figured bass.” The present work, a result of teaching ‘“ first principles” almost exclusively, is intended to supply a distinct want. Undue prominence has not been given to figured bass work, On the contrary, each paragraph, from the first, forms a step towards the harmonization of melodies, which is taken as the chief object. Part I., Ready Shortly. Crown 8vo, 2/-. The Principles of Moral Science An Essay: By the Rev. WaLTER McDONALD, D.D., Prefect of the Dunboyne Establishment, St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth. [Shorily.
