But let not anger, rankling in her heart,
Inflict the torment of her long disdain;
Whatever bliss it after might impart,
I'd not buy ecstacy with so much pain.

Never, O Cupid! to my humble mind
The dog star's heat, or winter's horrour bring;
But may I ever in thy empire find
The downy pleasures of the genial spring.
