before us; and give unto us the assurance that our reward will be according to our works. Wean us from the things of this world, and grant us Thy assistance to prepare for eternity.

Lord, we humbly desire to glorify Thee for the blessings of the past night. May the renewal of Thy mercies increase our love to Thee, and may we manifest our gratitude by being more assiduous and useful towards our fellow-creatures. While thanking Thee for the blessings enjoyed during the night season, we would not be unmindful of Thy providence in blessing us during each day, and every day, with food, and in abundantly providing for the temporal wants of us and of all mankind. On every side there is abundance, "bread enough and to spare," and whether in the vegetable or the animal kingdom, we see the hand and adore the wisdom which so bountifully supplies our wants. O Lord, help us to love and serve Thee better.

Be with us, we beseech Thee, through this day; strengthen our hands in the labour Thou hast given us to do, and grant that we may faithfully, zealously, aud willingly perform our duties, to the good of Thy creatures and to the glory of Thy holy name. Amen.

Our Father, etc.

TUESDAY EVENING.

LORD Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Redeemer, assist us to look unto

Thee for aid, that we may acquire more and more of the temper and

spirit by which Thou wert distinguished whilst accomplishing the great work of our redemption.

With an abhorrence of all that is evil, may we steadily contend against it; knowing how frail we are, and how prone to turn aside to evil, may we keep Thee ever before us. 'Oh make us meek and lowly of heart;" endue us with patience under suffering, and aid us to acquire perfect resignation to Thy will; teach us to be kind, charitable, and forgiving, even as Thou hast been kind unto us and hast blotted out our transgressions for Thine own name's sake. May anger, envy, jealousy, and discontentment be removed from us, with all malice; and aid us, we beseech Thee, to be true, just, and upright in all our dealings with our fellowmen. Nor would we pray for ourselves alone, but for all the families of the earth. In Thy name may they be blessed. May those who sit in darkness be brought to the light of Thy truth, and may the prophecy of Thy Word find its speedy accomplishment: 'In that day the Lord shall be King over all the earth; in that day there shall be one Lord and His name one." Amen.

Our Father, ete.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

THE morning again calls us to Thy footstool, and, O Lord Jesus Christ, we acknowledge that the surest evidences of Thy divine government are the revelation of Thy holy Word, and the effects it produces upon us, by separating the evil from the good, and thus instructing us to choose that good which can never be taken away from us.

May we, each returning day that we are permitted to live in this world,
