308 FORTI-THIRD WEEK.

acknowledged dependence on Thee rests all our support; for they who trast in Thee shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abideth for ever.

O Lord, we acknowledge that all the treasures of wealth or knowledge that this world can bestow are valueless, if they be not united to spiritual views. Thou hast created us with immortal souls, which alone ean be susceptible of satisfaction by immortal possessions. We pray, therefore, that one thing may be princip: desired and sought after by us,—namely, "that we may dwell in the honse of the Lord for ever, t0 behold tho beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple." Amen.

Our Father, eto.

TUESDAY EVENING.

LORD God of heaven. Thou art great and greatly to be praised;

'Thon art clothed with honour and majesty: yet still, though Thon

art high and inhebitest eternity. Thou condescendest to dwell with

the poor in spirit, and Thou art willing to be in the midst of the humble and contrite.

Encouraged by Thy divine condescension. O Lord, we now spproach Thee, and acknowledge with heartfelt gratitude the bounties of this day.

Lord, we desire to humble ourselves in Thy presence. Who among us can say, "Iam frea from my sin"? When we take a view of our actions during the past day, in how many instances have we sinned against Thee! Thy Word discovers unto us how grievously we have erred from the way of Thy commandments, and how mistakenly even our best actions have been conducted. 'he pride of self-derived intelligenco hes directed us, and sensuality has marked onr course. Will true religion allow us this wild liberty? We acknowledge. O Lord, that tho heart cannot become regenerate while the affections are in the gratification of evit delights. O that we may rather be brought inte adversity than enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season!

Lord, help us to resist the world, and whatsqever in it may plead for sensual gratification, © help us, that we in this house may serve Thee with love and fear. May we say from the heart, "As for us and our house we will serve the Lord." Amen,

Our Father, eto.

WEDNESDAY MORNING.

O LORD God Almighty, who art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity, when we reflect upon the perfection of Thy divine nature, we are constrained in the words of Thy truth to ask, "Wherewithal shall we cleanse our way, so as with acceptance to worship Thee in spirit and in truth?" And Thou answerest us in the same Word of truth, "By taking heed to our way according to Thy Word."

Help us, O Lord, we beseech Thee, to meditate on Thy precepts, and have respect unto Thy ways; to delight ourselves in Thy statutes, and not forget Thy Word.

In the state in which Thou hast, by Thy wise providence, seen fit to place us, O teach us to be therewith content. Depending upon Thee,
