Gun. 170'J) and served in the wars M-U. ;„ Flanders, distinguishing himself at Schellenborg and at Blenheim I 1718 B**ng then OoL of the 5th Keg.( b ) of Bane) in 1701, at Kami lies in 1700, at the siege of Meuiu and the battle of Malplaquet in 1 70'J ; and at the .siege of liouehaiu iu 1711. He was Lieut, of the Tower of London, 1707, hut, sharing the same fate as his old commander, Earldom. [, 171S Marlborough, he in 1712 resigned all his appointments. He was t„ M. 1 for Woodstock, 1705-16. Envoy to Hanover, 1706. Envoy to I70Q the Hague, 1707-10 and again Oct. 1714. In 1714 be was, by George 1, made Master of the Robes, Col. of the Coldstream Foot Guards. 1714; Gov. of the Isle of Wight. 1715 ; Commander-in-Chief of the Forces in Scotland, 1710, and on 21 June 1716 was w. BARON CADOGAN OK HEADING, co. Berka.(°) K.T. 29 June 1716. High Steward of Reading, 1710 ; AmUwsadot to the Hague, 1710 ; P.O., 1716 ; Geu. of all the Foot, 1717. On 8 May 1718 he was er. BARON CADOGAN OF OAKLEY, co. Buckingham, VISCOUNT CAVUKSHAM, co. Oxford and EARL CADOGAN, co. Deubigh,( c ) with a sjwe. rem. of the Barony (only), failing the heirs male of his body, to his br. Charles Cadogan in like manner. In Feb. 1720 he assisted in arranging the terms on which Spain acceded to " the quadruple alliance." In 1722, on the death of Marlborough, he sue. him as Com. in Chief of the Forces, Col. of the 1st Keg. of Foot Guards, and Master Gen. of the Ordnance. On 23 June 1723 was one of the Lords Justices of the Realm during the King's absence from England. He m. early in life, at the Hague, Margaretta Cecilia, da. of John Muntkr, Dr. of Laws (Utrecht), Couucellor of the Court of Holland, by Margaret, da. of Hcudrick Tripp of Amsterdam and Cecilia Godin his wife. He d. at Ids house at Kensington Gravel pits, s.p.m. 17 July 1720 in liis 57fh year, and was bur. 21st in Westm. Abbey, when the Barony of 1716 and the Earldom and Viscountcy of 1718 became extinct. Will dak 27 June and pv. 7 Nov. 1726. His widow who was b. 29 July 1675 d. at the Hague, Oct. 1749 in her 75th year.C) Will pr. 1750. Barony. 2. Charles (Cadogan), Baiion Cadogan of Oakley, II 17*^6 ur " aui ^ male, who sue. to the above peerage under the spec. rein. He was b. 1685, was M.P. for Reading 1716-22, and for Newport (Iale of Wight) 1722-26. He served in the army at Flanders being Lieut Col. Coldstream Foot Guards, 1715 ; Col. 4th Foot, 1719 ; Col. 0th (•) He d. 13 Jan. 1713/4 and was bur. at Christ Church, Dublin, m Known as •' Gadogan's Horse." {') The preamble to each creation is given iu " Collins," vol. v, p. 414 and 410.

Abbey. No such entry however, appears among the burials. They had two daughters and coheirs viz. (1) Sarah, m. Charles (Lennox), Duke of Richmond, and (2) Margaret, »». Charles John Bentiuok, Count Bcutinck, who d. 1779.
