M.P. for Ayrshire 1768-74. Rep. Peek [S.] 1776-92. On 2 Feb. 1790 he entailed the estates both of Cassillis and of Colzean on the heirs male df the family. He d. unat 18 Dee. 1732 at Colzean, when the Baronetcy [S.] a: 10S2 became extinct, but the peerage devolved as under. XI. 1792. 11. Archibald (Kennedy), Earl of Cassillis and Lord Kennedy [S.T, cousin and h. male, being only s. and h. of Archibald K., Collector of Customs in New York, by ( — ) da. of ( — ) Mussam, which but named Archibald was 2il s. of Alexander Kennedy of Craigoch, 2d 8. of Sir Alexander K. of Colzean above mentioned, who was s. of Sir Thomas K. of the same, the 2d s. of Gilbert, 3d Karl of Cabsili.is [S.] as before stated. Archibald (Kennedy), Earl of Cassillis and Lord Kennedy [S.], s. and h. by 2nd wife, b. Feb. 1770. On 12 Nov. 1808 he was or. BARON AILSA of Ailsa, co. Ayr, and, on 10 Sep. 1831, was cr. MARQtTKSS OF AILSA of the isle of Ailsa, co. Ayr. See "Atlsa," Marquessate of, cr. 1831. CASTILE AND LEON. 1372, Oct. 6, By writ of this date, John (Plantagenet, styled "ok Gaunt,") Duke ok Lancaster, &c, was sum. to Pari, as "KING OF CASTILE AND LEON, Duke of Lancaster," being so sum. also by succeeding writs issued by Edward III. and Richard II. down to 3 Sep. 33S5 (9 Rie. II.) but never subsequently under that denomination. Shortly after the resignation of this Royal title he was, on 2 March 1389/90, cr. in Pari. DUKE OF AQUITAINE for life, and on 23 July 1392 was sum. to Pari, as "Duke cf Aquitaiue and Lan- caster."
