Guhvay [I.](") Ee was taken prisoner at the battle of Aughrim, 12 July 1691,( b ) anil was attainted. A bill for his restoration in 16!)8, was rejected, but by Act (1 Anne) 1702 he was acquitted of all treasons and attainders, and restored in blood and estate. Soon after this he ski', his br. in the family honours, He m. in Oct. 1084 Mary, da. of James Talbot. He d. 17 Oct. 1722, aged 82. X. 1722. 10. Michael (Bourke), Earl of Clanricarde, &c. [I.], s. and h. He matric at Oxford (Ch. Ch.) 25 Nov. 1702, beiui; then aged 16. On 3 Aug. 1711 ho was sum. to the House of Lords [I.], v.p., in liis Father's Barony( c ) as BARON DUNKKLLIN [I.] Gov. of Galway. 1712. Took liis seat as an Earl [I.] 19 Oct. 1725 ; P.C., May 1726. He m. 19 Sep. 1711, Anne, widow of Hugh Parkin, of Honington, co. Warwick, 1st da. and coheir of John Smvtm, off' 1 ) Beaufort buildings, London, Commissioner of Excise, The Earl d. 2S Nov. 173G. His widow d. in Pall Mall. Midx., 1 and was bur. 7 Jany. 1732/3, in Westm. Abbey, aged 46, or, as on her M.I., in her 49th year. Will d'at. 2 Aug. 1732, pr. 18 Feb. 1732/3. XI. 1726. 11. John Smyth (Bourke, afterwards de Burgh), Earl of Clanricarde, &c. [I.], 2nd but 1st surv. s. and h.,(°) o. 11 Nov. 1720, and took his scat in the House of Lords [I.], 12 Jan. 1743. By royal lie, 13 May 1752, he resumed his orig. patronymic of De Burgh, in lieu of Bourke.^) He m. 1 July 1740, Hester Amelia, da. of Sir Henry Vincent, 6th Bart., of Stoke Dabern»u, by Elizabeth, da. of Bazaliel Sherman, of London. He d. at Portumna Castle, co. Galway, 21 April 1782, and was bur., with his ancestors, at Atheury. His widow d. 29 Dec. 1804 at Corhampton, Haute. Will pr. Jan. 1804. XII. 1782. 12 and 1. MAKQUESS OF CLANMCARDE [L], no other Marquess [I.] save the Marquess of Kildare (who was also Duke of Leinster) being then existing.) 1 ') He m. 17 March 1785, at St. Maryleboue, Urania Anne, da. of George (Powlett), 12th Marquess of Winchester, by Martha, da. of Thomas (») He was oue of the seven Irish Peers cr. by that monarch after such exclusion, but at a time when, he was in possession of all his Itoyal nights, as Xing of Ireland ; all seven of such creations being duly inscribed on the" Patent Rolls [I.], from which they have never been erased. By some strange blunder the lady is generally called da. of John Smith, of Tedworth, Wilts, Speaker of the House of Commons. ( e ) His eldest br. d. 28 Dec. 1719, in his 4th year, and was bur. 24 Jan., with his maternal Grandfather, in Westm. Abbey as " the Hon. John Burke, Esq." ( f ) At the same Pus uncles] " Ulick Bourke of London " and " Thomas Bonrke of Ireland " were likewise so authorised. Both of these, however, d. (•>) No less than four Marquessates [I.] were created in August 1789, viz. : (1) On the 17th, Clanricarde ; (2) on the 18th, Antrim ; (3) on the 19th, Walerford ; (4) on the 20th, Dowmhirc. These were followed (July 1791) by the Marquessates [IJ »f Donegall and Droglieda, {six Marquessates cr. within tico years) a very profuse granting of so high a dignity.
