Since his deposition in 1866 no resided chiefly in Paris, but became i General in the British army, 1876. He m. 18 Feb. 1843, Alexaudrina Maria Wilhelmina Catherine Charlotte Theresa Henrietta Louisa Paulina Elizabeth Frederica Georgiana, 1st da. of Joseph Frederick Ernest George Charles, Duke ok Saxe-Altenbourg, by Louisa Amelia Wilhelmina Philippma, da. of Louis Alexander Frederick, DiiKE ok Wurtembehc. He if. 12 June 1878, aged 59, his funeral being celebrated at the Lutheran church, Rue Chaucat, in that city, whence he was removed to St. George's chapel, Windsor, and there bur. on the 25th. The Ex-Queen of Hanover, his widow, who was [J. 14 April 1818, V. and A., (1st class) was living 1889. VII. 1878. 3. On 18 Oct. 1884, by the death of his (somewhat distant) cousin, William, Duke of Brunswick, he became the representative of that house and, by proclamation of the same date, signed " Ernst August " and issued from Gmunden in Austria, gave notice that thereby he took " pulsation of the Duchy of Brunswick." No further proceedings, however, occurred, lie m. 21 Dee. 1878, at Copenhagen, Thyha Amelia Caroline Charlotte Anne, 3rd and yst. da. of Ciihistian IX, King ok Denmark, by Louisa Wilhelmina Frederica Caroline Augusta Julia, da. of William, Landgrave ok Hesse-Cassel. She, who was b. 29 Sep. 1853, is C.I. [George William Christian Albert Edward Alexander Frederick Waldemar Ernest Adolf, Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg, 1st s. and h, ap. b. 28 Oct. 1880 at Gmunden in Austria and bap. there.] CUMBERNAULD.
