(of the whole blood) John Forbes, Master of Forbes, d. num., being executed for treason 17 July 1537, a charge he denied, tho' he acknowledged to the slaughter of Alexander Setou, Laird of Meldrum. ( b ) Margaret, the other coheir, Hi. William (Keith), 4th Earl Marischal [S.J, her marriage "worth £10,000 " being sold in 1521 by the Duke of Albany [S.J («) As to John, his elder br. (the only son by the first wife) it is said that he "entered into a religious order abroad and died without succession." It is to be noted that a charter of the Lordship and Barony of Forbes 20 Dec. 1598 was granted "to Arthur Forbes, eldest son of John, Lord Forbes, by Jonet Seytouu, his wife," which seems to imply that John was then civilly or actually dead.
