He was b. 2 April 1799, at Sydney Lodge, near Southampton ; ed. at Harrow school and the Royal Naval College; joined the Royal Navy in 1815, being at the bombardment of Algiers, becoming Tost Capt.. 1325, and (on the reserved list) Rear Admiral, 1S54, Vice Admiral, IS58, and Admiral, lSo'3. M.P. for Rebate, 1S31 32, and for Cambridge- shire, 1S32-34 ; sue. to the image, 18 Nov. 1S31 ; Lord Lieut, of Cambridgeshire, 1S3I-73 ; LL.D. of Cambridge, OJuly 1836 ; one of the Lords in waiting, 1841-40 ; Councillor to the Duchv of Lancaster, 1847 ; P.C., 1852 ; Postmaster Gen., March to Dec. 1S52 ; D.C.L. of Oxford, 7 June 1858 ; Loud Piuvy Seal, Feb. 1858 to June 1S5P. He d. 17 Sep. 1873, at Sydney Lodge, iu Hauible, Hants (abovenamed) and was 6ki 24th at Wimpole. His widow who was b. 11 Jan. 1810, d. at Sydney Lodge afsd. 22 Nov. 18S6, aud was bin: at Hamble. Coll., Cambridge : M.A.. 1S5S. He joined the Army, 1S57 ; served in the Indian Campaign, 1858--09, receiving the Indian war medal, but retired 1861, being then Lieut, in the 11th Hussar*. He was M.P. for Cambridge- shire, 1865-73; P.O., 1866; Comptroller of the Household, 18(16-6.8, and rag. tt the pceraijc, 17 Sep. 1873. Master of the Buokhouuds, 1874-80. Total 19,382 acres, worth £27,121 a year. Principal Residence- Wimpole Hall, near Royston, Cam- bridgeshire.
