He d. unm. 8 Jan. 1541/2, at Rising, 1542. when the right to this Barony fell into abeyance between his two sisters (Mrs. lirowne and Airs. L'Fstrange) aud so continued for 300 ! ! ! years till terminated as below.

Coll.), IS Feb. 1817 : tHC. his father in the Baronetcy and family estates 28 April following ; eft D.C.L. of Oxford, 14 June 1S20 ; M.I', for West Norfolk, 1832-37. Being found by the House of Lords in 18-10 a ooheir( d ) (i.e., the junior coheir of the junior coheiress) of the Barony of Hastings (it. by writ as above mentioned) the abeyance thereof was terminated in his favour by writ dat 18 May 1841, directed " Jacob Astlcy de J/astinys, Ohev'r.," in which he was sum. to Pari, as LORD HASTINGS.(°) He was Hon. Col. of the Norfolk Militia, 1S5(). He m., 9 March 1819, Georgiana Caroline, 2d da. of Sir Henry Watkin Dashwood, 3d Bart, of Kirtlington, Oxon, by Mary Helen, da. of John Gkaha.m, Member of Council in Bengal. She, who was b. Hi March 1796, </. 2S June 1835. He d. in Loudon, 27 Dec. 1859, aged 62. (a) Vide p. 181, note "a." (1>) There was yet a third brother, also a Knight, viz., Sir Bryan Hastings, whose only sou, Sir Francis Hastings, of Hartfelde, eo. York, was living 1554, but d- s.p.m. ( c ) The third and yst. br., Martyn Hastings, of Hindringham, was at his nephew's death in 1542 the heir male of this line. He </. ["Peers," vi, p. 83, iu Coll. of Arms.] This date, however in no way agrees with the " summonitiones " in the Lords' report on the dignity o£ a Peer. The true date would appear to be 23 June (1295), 23 Ed. I.
