Family -Es'iffs. — These, in 1S83, consisted of 2,100 acres in Breconshire, Radnor- shire, and Herefordshire, worth £2,241 a year. Principal llesidcnce. Tregoyd, near Hay, co. Brecon. "Writ hut h. male of William H., of Ford Castle. ( A ) co. Northumberland), was sum. to Pari, as a Baron (LOUD HERON), by writ 8 Jan. I. 1371. (1370,1), 44 Ed. 111., directed " Willa Hero t," but never afterwards. He is supposed to have (/. s.p , when the Bcrony (if it ever existed as a hereditary dignity) would become extinct. II. 1893, Sir William Heron, said to be grandson of Odonel to Herou, yr. br. of Roger the father of William, Loud Heron above- 1401. named, having m. about 1302 Elizabeth, dejtre, sua jure BARONESS SAY (see that dignity) widow of John (Falversley), Lord Falveus- i.ev (who d. 13H2) was sum. to Pari, as a Baron (most probablvl b ) jure uxoris) as LORD HERON {not as Lord Say) by wriu from 13 Nov. (1393), 17 Ric. II., to (five years after his said wife's death) 25 Aug. (1404), 5 Hen, IV. His Barony, however, is generally considered to have been (fiat of LORD SAY (jure uxorii), and in a charter of 1 Hen. IV., to which he was a witness, he is styled " William Heron, Lord of $dy, Steward of the King's Household." His said wife d. 8 July 1399. He d. s.p. Oct. 1404 when the Barony of Heron, if considered as a distinct dignity from the Barony of Say, became extinct. HERRIES OF TERREGLES. Barony [s.j /. Herbert Herries, of Terregles, co. Kirkcudbright I 1190 s ' an ' °^ David II. of the same, by Margaret, da. of Sir Robert Ckichtok, of Sanquhar, sue his father after 147S, and was cr. a Lord of Pari, as LORD HERRIES OF TERREGLES [8.1, by King James IV fS.], shortly after his accession, sitting among the Barons, 3 Feb. 1489/90 and 8 Feb. 1491/2, as Dominut /Am de Tereglit. He in. firstly Mariot Carlyle who was living 1 June 1486. He m. secondly before 4 June 1493, Mariot Cunninoiiam, at which data they were both living. He d. between 25 Feb. 1499/500, and 23 Dec. 150(3. II. 1505? 2. Andrew (Merries), Lord Herries of Terregles [S.], s. and h. by first wife. He Bi. before 22 Dec. 1495, Janet, da. of Archibald (Douglas), 5th Eaul of Angus [8-1 by his first wife, Elizabeth, da. of Robert (Boyd), Loud Boyd [S.] He d. 9 Sep. 1513, being slain (with his King), at the battle of Flodden. III. 1513. 3. William (Herries), Lord Herries of Terregles [S.], s. and h. He m. Catharine, da. of James Kennedy, of Blair- quhan. He d. s.p.m., 2(5 Sep. 1543, leaving three daughters. f») (o) Mary, mother of this last named William, was da. and h. of Odonel DE Ford, of Ford Castle, wife of another William Heron. C) See vol. iii, p. 315, note a " [circa finem) sub " Falversley." (°) The two younger of these (1) Catherine, whom. Alexander Stewart of Garlies.and (2) Janet who m. William Cockburn of Skirling, resigned their inheritance to Lord John Hamilton, 2d s. of James, Duke of Chattellerault, which John (afterwards, 1599, er. Marquess of Hamilton [S.]) resigned 3 Sep. 1561, his two-thirds of the Barony of Terregles to Sir John Maxwell, the owner of the other third.
