Lieut.-Gen. of the North, defeating the English at Haddenrig, 24 Aug. 1542 ; one of the t,,ur persons named as Regent [S-], in the King's will, 1542 ; High Chancellor [S.], 1510; was in command and was taken prisoner at i'inkie, 10 Sep. 154,, but es a;ed 111 1548. Had a grant of the Earldom oj Moray [S.], 13 Feb. 1548/9 (which had re.-erted to the crown 12 June 1544), becoming, apparently, thereby KAUL Ob" MORAY [S.J His continued wavering between the parties of the old and new faith lost him the confidence of the Queen, who, by charter 30 Jan. 1501/2. bestowed the lCarldom of Moray on her illegit. br. James Stewart. This caused the revolt of Lord Huntly who was slain by the Queen's forces, under the newly created Earl of Moray, at Corricbie, Oct. 1502. His body was brought to Holyrood( c ), wherein Pari. 28 May 1503, an act of attainder was pasted whereby all his honours became, lorfeiled. He hi. V. 1565. 5. George Gordon, styled Lord Gordon (since 1553), 2d() but 1st surv. s. and h., was convicted of treason and sentenced (a) Catherine, his eldest da., was m. by order of JauieB IV. (°) His body was subsequently placed in the vault of the chapel royal at Holy rood, being then removed to the Hlackfi iars Monastery, where it lay uuburieU till April 1506, when it was tran>poited to the Gordon vault in Llgiu cathedral. ( d ) The 3d son, Sir John Gordon, alius Ogilvie, was said to have aspired to the hand of Mary, Queen of Scot«. He was taken (with his father) at Corrichie 28 and was executed 31 Oct. 1582, at Aberdeen.
