Patrick Fitz Thomas (Fitz Maurice), Baron of Keury and Lixnaw [I.], s. and h. by (apparently) the first vife,(») J. about 1311 ; sent when young to England and ed. in the court of Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. No sooner, however, did he arrive in Ireland in 15S0 than lie joined in the rebellion of the Earl of Desmond, and eventually maintained 500 foot against the English in Kerry, pulling down his castle of Beale lest it should fall into their hands. He in. about 1570 Joan, da. of David (KocheI, 5th Viscount Fermoy [I.], by Ellen, da of James Butler, of Dunboyne, co. Meath. He d. (in rebellion) 12 Aug. 1(300, at Dowtllogh, ami was bur. (in the Mac Cartby burial place) at the (Irey Friary of Irrelaugli [Mttcruss Abbey] iu Desmond. His wife survived him. XVIII. 1G00. IS. Thomas (Fitk Maurice), Baron of Kerry and Lixnaw [I.], s. and h., b. 1574 ; joined his father in rebellion and continued in the same, losing his castle of Listowel in NOT. 1600, and being for two years later sorely harassed. Finally, however, he made submission to King James, who by patent 16 July 1604 (confirmed 1 July 1012), restored him to his estates, lie was present in the Pari. [I.] of 1615, 1 ') but appears to have been, thro' all his life, suspected of treason and was twice imprisoned in London. He m. firstly about 1591 Houora, da. of Connor (O'Brien), 3d Earl OS THOHODB [I.], by hi3 second wife, (hvnye, da. of Turlogh Mac-i-Briex-Ara. Shed. 1600. He hi. secondly, in 1615, Oyles or Julia, da. of Uichard (Power), 4th Baron i.e Power and Corochuore [I.], by Katharine Bauuy, of Bnttevaut. He d. at Drogheda 3 June 1630, and was bur. iu the cathedral of C.ishel. XIX. 1G30. !'■). He, after the battle of the Boyne, followed King James II. into Frauoe and is named as one of those who would receive pardon if he returned to Ireland and submitted to the then Government. He m. about. 1005 Constance, da. of William Loxo, of London and of co. York. He d. 1697. XXI. 1697. 1 nml 21. Kerry, 1692-97. till he sue. to I. 1723. the peerage [L] and took his seat in Pari, [I ], 17 Aug. 1697, signing the association in defence of the King, 2 Dec. following. He was cr. 17 Jan. 1722/3 (9 Geo. I.), VISCOUNT CLAN- CM His mother is stated in " Lodge" to have been Margaret Fitz Gerald, there called his father's tirst wife, but it also there stated that she was not married till her husband was 48 [1550] and that this Patrick was bom in 1541. () In this Pari, he had a dispute with the Lord Slane as to precedency. "The Commissioners for the office of Earl Marshal iu England, by their letter to the Lord Justice [I.] from Whitehall, 17 Jan. 161), determined the matter in his Lordship's favour, notwithstanding which the Lord Slane in 1624 at the instigation of the Lords of the Pale again demanding precedency it was ordered by the Deputy and Council, after much debate, aud inauy proofs on both sides (17 Nov.) that the Lord of Kerry and Lixnaw should have and hold his place and precedency from the Lord of Slane nntil he [Query who?] should sufficiently prove he was not Lord of Kerry."
