John (Stourton), Baron Stourton, 1st s. and h., b. about 1455; was made K.B. (as " the s. and h. to the Lord Stourton") on Whitsunday 1175. He was aged 24 at his father's death, 18 Feb. 1478/3, when he sue. to the peerage, having livery of his lauds next year. He was sum. to the proposed coronation of Ed, V., and was one of the 45 peers present at that of Hie. 111. (i July 1183.( k ) He m. Katharine, da. of Sir Maurice Berkeley, of Bever- stone, co. Francis (Stourton), Baron Stourton, only s. and h. ; aged 40 or 45 weeks, or, possibly, 2 years at his father's death 6 or S Oct. 1485, (<) when be sue to the peerage. He d. young 18 Feb. 1480/7. Inn. port mortem, 3 Nov. (1487), 3 Heu. VII. (0 V. 1487. .-7. William (Stourton), Baron Stourton, uncle and h., b. about 1 157, being aged 30 and upwards at the death of his said nephew, 18 Feb. 1486/7, when he sun. to the peerage. Will dat. 1522 at Stourton and directing his burial to be at St. 1'eter's, Stourton, pr. 10 March 1523. VI. 1523. 6. Edward (Stourton), Baron Stourton, br. and b., who in (1513-14) 5 Hen. VIII., was one of the collectors of the Poll tax. He sue. to the peerage, 1523, and was sum. to pari. (1529-30) 21 Hen. VIII., subscribing next year the letter to the Pope demanding the divorce of Heu. VIII. (") This is one of the 10 Baronies granted hij patent before the reign of Heu. VIII. See a list of them, vol. (°) In two of the inquisitions on his father's death (0 Oct. 1485) he is said to have been aged 40, and in another two. 45 weeks. In the 5th, that in co. Essex, he is said to have been aged " 2 and more " on his father's death, (there stated as 8 (.let. 148a), hia name being given as • Edward," which last statement, however, is disproved by the in//, p. mortem on himself as " Praneiseue, nuper dominus de Stourton." (0 This Francis has hitherto been always omitted in the list of the Barons Stourton. I») "William, Lord Stourton, m. Catherine, da. of John Delapole, Duke of Suffolk, but she probably d. s.p." [■'Collins"]. This match is not mentioned in the Stourton pedigree recorded [" 4, D. xiv "] in the College of Arms, and, if agreed upon, was probably never consummated.
