Sussex ; ed. at Harrow ; entered the army, 7th Hussars, 1871 ; sue. to the peerage, 19 July 1879 : Capt. Ib'th Lancers, 1881 ; served in the Zulu and Afghan war, 1S79-81, and in the Egyptian Expedition, 1883, receiving the medal for all three ; Kuight. 4th Class, of the Medjidie of Turkey, 17 Nov. 1882 ; Adjutant of the heavy Cavalry Division in Egypt, 18S4-85. He d. num. 22 Jan. 1885, aged 34, at Abou Klea Wells, in the Soudan, in consequence of wounds received on the 17ib ;it the battle of Abou Klea, Will pr. 22 Oct. 1885,( c ) over £11,000. V. 1885. 5. Carnegie Farker (Jervis), Viscount Saint Vin- cent of Meaford [1801], br. and h., b. 5 April 1855, and bap. at' Chelford chapel, in Prestbury. co. Chester; sometime (1876-83) an officer in the 6th ' Foot, retiring as Captain and Regimental Instructor of Musketry. He sue. to Ik peerage, 22 Jan. 18S5. He n. 17 Oct. 1885, at Christ Church, Salford, Rebecca Maf, only surv. da. of James Hasten, of Manchester and of Barrow-in-Furneaa. Family Estates. — These, in 1883, consisted of 2,444 acres in Lincolnshire ; 2,041 in the East Riding of Yorkshire; 6 in Notts, and 1 in Staffordshire. Total 4,492 acres worth £6,039 a year. Principal Residence. Norton Disney, near Newark, co, J Lincoln, and Sutton-on-Derwent, co. York (a) His elder br.. William Henry, a Capt. ll.N., had by Royal lie, 10 June 1801, taken the name of Jervis in lieu of that of Ricketts. He d. s.p.m. 26 Jan. 1801, aged tO, His eldest da. inherited the estate of liockefcts, in lissex, and left issue, who also bore the name of Jervis. ( b ) She m. secondly, 30 Jan. 1806, Richard Charlea Head Graves, and d. hu widow, 20 June 1813, aged 69, at Uritwell, Bucks. ( c ) The codicil, tho' not witnessed, being written by the deceased when " engaged in actual military service in the face of the enemy " had " full and binding effect in law."
