( c ) Owing to the preposterous law of " half blood " which then prevailed as to land, the late Lord's first cousin, Dame Catherine Eure, the only grandchild tlieu remaining of his paternal grandfather (Henry, Lord Scrope) was passed over, as to the inheritance of such estates as devolved on the heir-at-law, and they devolved in 1630 on the heirs of the bodies of the two daughters of his great grandfather, John, the 8th Lord. TheBe were (1) Anthony Constable, then aged 41, s. and h. of Sir Henry Constable, the a. and h. of Sir Johu Constable, by Margaret, the eldest da. ; and (2) Ambrose Pudsey, aged 7 months and 21 days (on 30 May 1630), s. and h. of Ambrose Pudsey (rf. 1628, v.p., aged 33), the s. and h. of William Pudsey (rf. 1G29), who was s. and h. of Thomas Pudsey, of Berforth (rf. 1576), by Elizabeth, the second da. of the said Lord.
