Thomas of Aldithley or Audley, s. and h., b. 1288, was aged over 10 at his father's death. He m. Eve, da. and h. of John of Clavering [2nd Lord Clavering], by Hawise, da. of Robert de TiBETOT. He d. s.p., while still a minor, between 8 July and 14 Dec. 1307. Writ for Imj. p. m. 16 Jan. 1307/8. His widow m., 2ndly, before 2 Dec. 1308, Sir Thomas de Ufford, who was slain at Bannock- burn 24 June 1 3 14. After his death she lived with, but did not marry, (possibly owing to some difficulty in obtaining a dispensation ; or to avoid the fine which she would have had to pay on marriage) Sir James Audley, (") (who d. 1333/4) ist cousin of her ist husband. She m., finally, Robert of Benhale, [Lord Benhale]. BARONY I. Nicholas Audley or Aldithley, of Heleigh, co. BY WRIT Stafford, br. and h., b. 11 Nov. 1289. II (") whereby he may be held to have become LORD AUDLEY. He w., in 13 12, without He, Joan, widow of Henry, Earl of Lincoln, the only child that had issue of William Martin [Lord Martin], by Eleanor, widow of John de Mohun, of Dunster, da. of Sir Reynold Fitz Piers. He ^. in 13 16, shortly before 9 Dec, aged 27. Inq. p. m. 13 17, 10 Edw. II. His widow d. between Feb. 1319/20 and i Aug. 1322. II. 13 16. 2. James (Audley or Aldithley), Lord Audley, s. and h., b. 8 Jan. 13 12/3, at Knesale, co. Notts, and bap. there ; aged 3 at his father's death, and 14 in 1326, at the death of his maternal uncle, William Martin, to whose vast estates in cos. Pembroke and Devon he was coh., and eventually (by the death, in 1343, of his mother's sister, Eleanor, widow of Philip, Lord Columbers) sole heir, and would then apparently have been entitled to any Peerage which his afsd. uncle may be held to have possessed. He had seisin, though not of age, 25 May 1329. Though still a minor, 21 Mar. 1333/4, he was sum. to Pari, as early as 25 Jan. 1329/30 to 8 Aug. 1386. An order for his arrest issued on 28 July 1348 because he had not attended the King and Council when summoned. He had exemption for life from attending Pari. 20 Apr. 1353. He »;., istly, before 13 June 1330, Joan, da. of Roger (Mortimer), ist Earl of March, by Joan, da. of Piers de Joinville, which Earl had been his guardian. She d. between 1337 and 1351.
