He commanded a regt. under Lord Galway in Spain, and was taken prisoner in the English defeat, at Almanza, 25 Apr. 1707. Brig. Gen. 1707; Major Gen. 1709 ; Lieut. Gen. 1710/11. On 14 Feb. 1703/4 he took his seat in the House of Lords. M.P. (Tory) for Stockbridge 17 10- 13, 17 14-15 ; and for Wigan 1715-27, and 1734-47. P.C. [I.] 29 Jan. 17 13/4. He was arrested on suspicion of treason in 17 15, but nothing was proved against him. He was cr. D.C.L. She, who was sister to Charles (Boyle), 3rd Earl of Cork [I.], was bap. 13 Feb. 1662, and had a fortune of ;^ 1 0,000. She d. s. p.m. s. Admon. 10 Oct. 1703 granted to EARLDOM [I.] IV.
