He had been previously (17 15) attainted, but at the Court of St. Germain was (of course) recognised, on his father's death (14 Nov. 1724), as Duke of Atholl [S.]. George (Granville), Lord Lansdowne (so cr. by Queen Anne), who, on 6 Oct. 1 72 1, as George Granville, Esq., had been cr. Lord of Lansdown, Devon, Viscount of — , co. — , and Earl of Bath, Somerset [E.], with rem, to heirs male, was cr. 3 Nov. following Baron Lansdown of Bideford, Devon, Viscount Bevel, Earl of Bath, Marquis Monk and Fitzhemon, and Duke of Albemarle [E.], with a spec. rem. He d. s.p.m., 8 Jan. 1734/5. 1722. Charles (Butler), Earl of Arran [L], cr. a Duke.* Qy. Duke of Arran [L] . On 16 Nov. 1745 he became, de jure, Duke of Ormonde [I.], but never assumed that title.
