THE CURSE AT FAREWELL

With eyes wide-opened. Frankly bold, confess :

“ Debjani, knowledge is not happiness,

And fame is not; my life in you alone

Its purpose sees, in you incarnate shown,

And I embrace it.” Shame nor loss, be sure,

Will come from this. Though penance hard endure

A thousand years, a woman’s heart at end

Is treasure that repays all travail, friend.
