The short accounts of Native States in this work have been compiled mostly from the information received from them. Wherever the information supplied was insufficient, the compiler had to draw on the excellent edition of the Imperial Gazetteer lately published by Government.

Lastly, it may be mentioned that this work has been wholly executed and finished in this country, in the face of several unforeseen difficulties, and that too, within a limited time; and, as a consequence, it is likely to contain many shortcomings. It is, therefore, hoped that the public will receive it with indulgence.
