Vizagapatam (Visakha-patnam).—British District in the Presidency of Madras, lying between 17° 14' 30" and 18° 58' n. lat., and between 82° 19' and 83° 59' E. long. Area (including the Jaipur and Vizianagram zamindaris, which are also under British administration), about 17,380 square miles. Population (1881) 2,485,141 souls. In size and population, Vizagapatam ranks first among the Districts of the Madras Presidency.
