Ramalinga.

Government of India; was exhibitioner of St. John’s College and was awarded Wright’s prize, 1903; was elected scholar of St. John’s College and again awarded Wright’s Prize, Part I. 1904; 1st Class in the Historical Tripos, 1904-6; studied advanced Philosophy, but could not go up for examination owing to ill-health; took part in Union debates and was Secretary and Vice-President, Cambridge Union Society, being the only Indian as yet chosen to occupy these high offices; defeated at the Presidency, 1905; co-operated with Mr. Lala Lajpatrai and the late Mr. Gokhale in the Congress Camp in England; took part in the General Election of 1906; addressed meetings in various parts of England; was introduced by Mr. Gokhale to H.H. the Gaekwar of Baroda; proceeded to America to study the American questions at the instance of H.H. the Gaekwar, 1907; returned to India and joined the Baroda service as Vice-Principal of the College which he soon resigned; joined service in the Educational Department, Mysore, as Assistant to the Inspector-General of Education, 1909: Professor, Maharaja’s College, Mysore; accampanied H.H. the Yuvaraj of Mysore in his tour in Europe; returned and was deputed to study educational, etc. matters in foreign countries, and visited Canada, Japan, Phillipines, Hongkong. etc: returned to Mysore and was put on special duty to prepare a report of his observations and to formulate a scheme for a University for Mysore; rejoined the Maharaja’s College, Mysore, 1913. Publications: The Death of Musalamma; Artha Sastara; and Kavitwa Tatwa Vichara. Recreations: Walking and Chess. Address: Mysore. India.

Ramalinga Aiyer, Autoor Vengu; B.A., B.C.E., (M.C.E.), Rai Bahadur (1913), Superintending Engineer, Madras; b. 1868; passed B.A., 1887; B.C.E., 1891; joined the P.W.D., as Assistant Engineer, 1893; passed the Proficiency Examination, 1894; became Executive Engineer, 1903; Superintending Engineer (temporary rank), 1913; Rao Sahib, 1903. Raman, Chendrasekhara Venkata, M.A., University Lecturer, Calcutta; s. of Mr. R. Chendrasekhara; b. Trichinopolv, 1888; educ: Mrs.A.V.N. College, Vizagapatam, and the Presidency College, Madras; passed B.A. in 1st class and won the Arni Gold Medal for Physics, 1904; won the Arbuthnot and Elliot prizes for English composition; Vizianagaram prize for Physics; passed M.A., with Physics in the 1st class, 1907; the 1st Indian to pass M.A. with Physics, in the history of the Madras University; nominated by the Madras Government for the Indian Finance Department, 1907; stood 1st in the All-India Competitive Examination: joined service in the Financial department, Calcutta. 1907; transferred to Rangoon, 1909: received the Curzon Prize for research work in Physics, 1913; Secretary and then Director of Astronomical Society, India, 1913; Professor of Physics, Calcutta University, 1914; Sir Subramania Aiyer Lecturer for the Madras University, 1915; Vice-President,
