ANXIETY DREAM AND CEDIPUS PHANTASY

by J. HERMANN, Budapest.

A boy, aged fifteen, had an anxiety dream during the night* He woke up and ran from his bedroom — where he slept with his grandfather — into the room where his father and mother were sleeping. He kissed his mother in order to calm himself and then lay down in his father's bed. The father gave up his bed to the son, and went to sleep in his son's bed. The ne.xt day I asked the boy if he had begged his father to give him his place. He answered that he had not trained his father for notliing. When I mentioned this to the father he gave me the following expla- nation. He changed beds in order to show [the son that he (the father) was not afraid.
