F the life of ordinary saints be full of instruction and edification, to those who devour by such studies to advance in the career of Christian perfection, still more should we endeavour to collect every possible detail of the biography of those Pastors and Bishops of the Church who have become, by their zeal and holiness, founders of distinct religious orders, and thus added such lustre to their sacred profession. Among men like these, few have been more eminent than St. Gaëtan; although perhaps he is less known in England than St. Francis, St. Dominic, or St. Benedict, whose children are so widely spread over all lands that their dress and their rule have become familiar to us all.
