Mr. (Dr. Sir) N. G. Chandavarkar, too was a contemporary of Mr. Tilak, though studying in a different college. He passed his B. A. examination in the same year with Mr. Tilak (1876). Both Tilak and Chandavarkar secured a first Class in the B. A. examination.
The Mathematical abilities of Mr. Tilak were of the highest order and were fully and frankly recognised by Prof. Chhatre who, in those days was considered to be the premier Mathematician of the Presidency.
