THis Author, tho’ a Presbyterian Doctor, writ one Play and divers Poems, but is moſt famous for his Iter Boreale. The Play is intituled,

The Benefice, a Comedy, 4 to. 1689. The Deſign taken from another Play, call’d, The Return from Parnaſſus; or, A Scourge for Simony.

Leonard Willan.

The Author of a Play, publiſh’d one Paſtoral in Verſe, call’d,

Aſtræa; or, True Love’s Mirrour; a Paſtoral, 8 vo. 1651. It is dedicated to the Illuſtrious Princess, Mary, Dutcheſs of Richmond and Lenox. Plot from a Romance ſo called.

He liv’d in the Reign of King Charles the Firſt, and writ (beſides one he join’d with Day and Rowley in) a Play, call’d,

The Miſeries of Inforced Marriage, a Tragi-comedy, 4 to. 1637. Mrs. Behn took her Plot and great part of the Language of this Play, to her Town Fop; or, Sir Timothy Tawdry. The other Play he join’d in, is called, The Travels of Three Engliſh Brothers.

A Poet of Queen Elizabeth’s Reign, and at the Requeſt of the Gentlemen of the Inner-Temple, writ,

Tancred and Griſmond, a Tragedy, 4 to. 1592. acted before her Majeſty by the Gentlemen of the Inner-Temple; and dedicated it to the Right Worſhipful and Vertuous Ladies, the Lady Mary Peter, and the Lady Ann Grey. Plot, Nov. 1. Day 4. of Boccace’s Novels.
