Shrine Of The Tree-Spirit

This spirit-shrine is shaded by a pīpal-tree (Ficus religiosa], which is associated with spirits in India as well. The sheds of the bazaar may be seen just behind the shrine, which is about fifteen miles north of Loilem, one of the district head-quarters of the Southern Shan States. Cf. Plate VIII.
