PLATE XXIX

Dilwāra Temple

The wealth of detail in sculpture is strikingly shown in the white marble temple of Dilwāra (Delvāḍa or Devalvāḍa) on Mount Ābū, Sirohi, Rājputāna. The temple was built in 1032 a.d. in honour of the first Jain Tīrthakara, Ṛṣabhadatta, whose statue is seen in the niche. After a photograph in the Public Library, Boston (copyright, H. C. White Co., New York).
