When Queen Victoria began her reign, the whole of the United Kingdom, including the Metropolis, possessed only sixteen daily newspapers. In the year of Her Majesty's Jubilee about 200 journals appeared every day, and the number is yearly increasing. Who will be bold enough to prophesy how great may be the advance of the British Press in the next half century ?
