George III. eldest son of Frederic, Prince of Wales; b. 4 June, 1738; succeeded to his father’s honours 20 Mar. 1751 created Prince of Wales and Earl of Chester 20 April following, installed K.G. 12 July, 1750, crowned in Westminster Abbey 22 Sept. 1761, by Thomas Seeker, Archbishop of Canterbury; at first styled King of Great Britain, France, Ireland, &c. but after the union with Ireland the style used was adopted, "By the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith," so styled by royal proclamation 1 Jan. 1801; d. at Windsor Castle 29 Jan. 1820 and there bur. having m.. 8 Sept. 1761, H.S.H. Princess Charlotte Sophia, 2nd dau. of Charles Louis Frederick, reigning Duke of Mecklenburg Strelitz; she d. 17 Nov. 1818, having had 9 sons and 6 daus.

Lord Warden of Windsor and New Forests, Com.-in-chief of the army 1795-1800 and 1811, &c.; d. s.p. 5 Jan. 1827, having m. 29 Sept 1791. Frederica Charlotte Ulrica Catherina, Princess Royal of Prussia, eldest dau. of Frederick William II. King of Purssia; she d. 6 Aug. 1820.

[4] Edward, b. 2 Nov. 1767; Duke of Kent and Strathearn in Great Britain and Earl of Dublin in Ireland, 23 April, 1799, K.G. K.P. G.C.B. F.M. in the army, col. 1st regt. of foot, Gov. of Gibraltar; d. 23 Jan. 1820, having m. at Coburg 29 May, and at Kew Palace 11 July, 1818, Princess Marie Louise Victoria, dau. of H.S.H. Francis Frederick Anthony, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, sister of Leopold 1. King at the Belgians, and widow of H.S.H. Enrich Charles, reigning Prince of Leiniugen (see I’L’ lxv.); she d. 16 Mar. 1861, having had by the Duke of Kent an only child, A

[6] Augustus Frederick, b. 27 Jan, 1773; Duke of Sussex, Earl of Inverness, and Baron Arklow, all in the Peerage of the U.K. so created 27 Nov. 1801, K.G. G.C.H Capt-Gen. and Col. Hon. Art. Company, Ranger of St. James's and Hyde Parks; d. 21 April, 1843, having m. at Rome 4 April, 1798, and in London 5 Dec. of that year, Lady Augusta Murray, dau. of John, 4th Earl of Dunmore; these nuptials having been decided to be in violation of the Royal Marriage Act were declared by the Prerogative Court null and void, and dissolved Aug. 1794; Lady Augusta assumed the name of De Ameland by R.L. 13 Oct. 1806; she d. 5 Mar. 1830, having had a son and dau. He m. 2ndly, Lady Cecilia Leetetia Underwood, dau. of Arthur, 2nd Earl of Arran, and widow of Sir George Buggin, Knt; she was created Duchess of Inverness 10 April, 1840, and d. s. p. 1 Aug. 1873.

[10] Charlotte Augusta Matilda (Princess Royal), b. 29 Sept 1766; d. s. p. 6 Oct. 1828; m. 18 May 1797, as 2nd wife, to Frederick (Charles William), King of Wurtemberg, who d. 30 Oct. 1816.

[11] Princess Augusta Sophia, b. 8 Nov. 1768; d. nnm. 22 Sept 1840.

[12] Princess Elizabeth, b. 22 May, 1770; d. 10 Jan. 1840; us. 7 April, 1818,to Frederick Joseph Louis, reigning Land grave of Hesse homburg, who d. 2 April, 1829.

[13] Princess Mary, b. 25 April, 1776; d. 30 April, 1857; in. 22 July, 1816, to her cousin H.R.H William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester, who d. without surviving issue 30 Nov. 1831.
