ARMS as above -without the sword and key in base were granted to the other relatives of Sir William Curtis, who were descendants of his father Joseph Curtis. On his tombstone, terming him " Esquire," are carved the arms as always used (Paly of six or and az. a fess chequy arg. and sa.), less the augmentations granted in 1802, with the crest of a ram's head couped, but devoid of the oak branches of 1802. Tradition brings him from the neighbourhood of Nottingham. He m. twice : 1st, Sarah Clowden, of Croydon; and 2ndly, Anne Phelps, but had issue only by his 1st wife, viz. a son and 3 daus.
