Roxburgh (de- Vjr scended from William, 2nd son of Sir James Douglas, Baron of Cavers), a member of the Scottish bar, solicitor of the tythes for Scotland ; m. Elizabeth, dau. of Sir Patrick Scott, Bart, of Ancnmi, and had 4 sons, (1) Sir James, created a Baronet 29 June, 1786. (2) Robert, gen. in the States army, Holland ; d. 1809 ; m. Helene, dau. of Gen. de Braaw, and had issue, now represented by Cornelius ilarinus Agnietus Douglas, lieut. of art. (3) Andrew, of Edinburgh, merchant, m. Christian, dau. of James Cheape, of Rossie, co. Fife, and had 2 daus. Janet and Christian, who d. unm. (4) Henry, of London, merchant, had a " daughter," viz. Mary, wife of Sir James Cockbum, Bart. SIR JAMES DOUGLAS, adm. of the white, knighted as messenger who brought the announcement of the sur- render of Quebec 16 Oct. 1757, commanded a fleet at the Lee- ward Islands 1761, took Dominica, and the same year had a broad pendant at the siege of Martinique, M.P. Orkney and Shetlandshire 1754, 61, 1761/8 ; was created a BarO-n'et 27 June, 1786 ; d. 2 Nov. 1787, having m. 1st, 1753, Helen, dau. of Thomas Brisbane, of Brisbane, co. Renfrew; she d. 20 Mar. 1766. He m. 2ndly, Lady Helen Boyle, dau. of John, 2nd Earl of Glasgow; she d. s. p. 17 Oct. 1794. His grandson, SIR JOHN JAMES, 3rd Baronet (on the death of his father. Sir George, M.P. 4 June, 1821), capt. 15th hussars, served in the Peninsula and at Waterloo ; b. 18 July, 1792 ; d. 24 Jan. 1836, having m. 15 Aug. 1822, his 2nd cousin Hannah Charlotte, only dau. and heir of Henry Scott, of Belford, co. Roxburgh, and assumed by b.l. 10 July, 1822, the surname and arms of Scott in addition to those of Douglas; she d. 29 April, 1850 (having re-m. 19 Dec. 1837, to William Scott-Kerr, Esq. of Chatto, CO. DONALD MACKENZIE, of Kilcoy (descended from Alex- ander, brother of Kenneth, 1st Lord Mackenzie, of Kin- tail, whose son Colin was created EARL OF SEAFORTH 3 Dec. 1623, to him and his heirs male), m. 1716, Elizabeth, dau. of John Mackenzie, of Highfield, and had with other issue 2 sons. (1) CoUn, of Kilcoy, whose grandson. Sir Colin Mackenzie, was created a Baronet 15 Mar. 1836. (See that article.) (2) Kenneth, murdered about 1760, having m. Janet, dau. of Sir Robert Douglas, Bart. (ext.). of Glenbervie, co. Kincardine (author of " The History of the Peerage and Baronage of Scotland"), and coheir of her brother Sir Alexander Douglas, M.D. last Baronet (descended from Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Angus, ancestor of Archibald, Duke and Marquis of Douglas, on whose death 1761 the Marquisate and Earldom passed to James George, 7th Duke of Hamilton), and had 3 sons and 4 daus.
