SIR FRANCIS KINLOCH, of Gilmerton, Haddington (son of Andrew Kinloch), merchant at Rochelle, purchased Gilmerton, Athelstaneford and Markle, in Haddingtonshire, and had a charter of the barony of Markle, 24 July, 1664, a commissioner of supply, created a Baronet op Nova Scotia 16 Sept. 1686, with, remainder to his heirs male ; d. Sept. 1691, having m. Magdalen McMath ; she d. 16 Nov. 1674, having had a son and 2 daus. [1] Sir Francis, s. as 2nd Baronet. [2] Magdalen, m. about 1660, to Sir James Rocheid, of Inver- leith, Bart. [3] m. to John Charteris, mother of Col. Francis Charteris, of Amisfield (E. Wemyss). SIR FRANCIS, 2nd Baronet, had a charter to Francis Kin- loch, jun. of Gilmerton, of that estate, 3 Mar. 1680, and •was served heir of his father 5 Feb. 1692, taken prisoner at the battle of Worcester ; d. Sept. 1699, having m. Hon. Mary Leslie, 2nd dau. of David, 1st Lord Newark, the celebrated general who defeated Montrose at the battle of Philiphaugh ; she d. 24 Mar. 1748, aged 93, having (re-m. 18 Jan. 1702, to Sir Alexander Ogilvy, of Forglen, Bart. — ext.— lord of session) had 2 sons and 3 daus. [1] Sir Francis, s. as 3rd Baronet. [2] David, b. 29 Nov, 1677. [3] EUzabeth, m. to Andrew Fletcher, of Saltoun, Lord Milton of session, and lord justice clerk. SIR FRANCIS, 3rd Baronet, served heir of his father 16 Nov. 1699; b. 23 June, 1676 ; d. 2 Mar. 1747, having m. his cousin Mary, 3rd dau. of Sir James Rocheid, Bart, of Inver- leith (and coheir of her brother, Sir Francis) ; she d. 2 April, 1749, having had with 3 daus. 4 sons, [1] Sir James, 4th Baronet ; m. a Swiss lady, and had issue, " but as the children were not naturalized in Great Britain they were incapable of succession ;" d. abroad 24 Mar. 1778. [4] Alexander Rocheid, of Inverleith; d. 11 May, 1755, having m. 4 April, 1750, Janet, dau. of John Watson, of Muirhouse, co. Edinburgh (by Hon. His grandson, James Rocheid (son of James Rocheid and Susan Wood), b. 1809 ; d. at Mannheim, 3 Mar. 1840, having m. 1st, Baroness Mary, dau. of Baron Dankelman, of Mayhew, Saxony ; she d. , leaving an only son, (1) Charles Frederick James Everard William George, b. 25 Jan. 1831 ; died at Dresden, 19 Jan. 1864, having m. 21 May, 1852, Baroness Mathilde Salviati, dau. of late Peter Heinrick de Salviati (she re-m. 14 Dec. 1865, to JuUus, Baron von Busshe, vice-master of horse to GEORGE "V. King of Hanover, and has 3 sons and a dau.), and had an only son, Charles Henry Alexander Frederick Camillo Everard John James, b. 30 Oct. 1853 ; m. 7 Mar. 1878, Baroness Marie von Grote, eldest dau. of Feodor von Grote, and has a son, Charles Alexander JuUus WilUam David, b. 22 Dec. 1878. James Rocheid m. 2ndly— 31 Jan. 1837, Sarah Catherine, only dau. of Capt. WilUam Patterson, R.N. (she re-m. , to John Stewart Wood, Esq. and has issue), and had an only dau. (2) Constance Isabelle, m. 3 July, 1860, as 2nd wife, to Major- Gen. David Briggs, of Strathairly, Fife, s. p. SIR DAVID, 5th Baronet, ^Titer to the privy seal Scotland, commissioner of fisheries Scotland 1749, governor of the British linen company; d. 18/19 Feb. 1795, aged 85, having m. 16 Jan. 1746, Harriett, dau. of Archibald Cockbum, of Langton, Ber^vicks. (Bart.); she d. 29 July, 1757, having had with other issue 3 sons, viz.: — Sir Francis, 6th Baronet; d. unm. 16 April, 1795. — Major Sir Archibald Gordon, 7th Baronet ; who d. imm. in ] 800, and SIR ALEXANDER, 8th Baronet, collector of customs at Preston Pans; d. 12 Feb. 1813, having m. 20 June, 1801, Isabella, dau. and coheir of John Stowe, Esq. of Newton, co. Line. ; she d. 10 Mar. 1861, having had a son and dau. (1) Sir David, s. as 9th Baronet. (2) Harriet, m. 29 Aug. 1833, to Rev. Lord Thomas Hay, youngest son of John, 7th Marquis of Tweeddale. SIR DAVID, 9th Baronet, D.L. co. Haddington; b. 1 Sept. 1805 ; d. 23 Feb. 1879, having m. 5 June, 1829, Eleanor Hyndford, eldest dau. of Sir Thomas Gibson Carmichael, Bart.; slie d. 15 Oct. 1849, having had a son and 3 daus. (1) Sir Alexander, 10th and present Baronet. (2) Isabella Anne, m. 2 July, 1863, to Harington Balfour, Esq. late B.c.s. (Harington — Bart.), and has a son, Nigel Harington B.ALFOUR, b. 12 June, 1871.
