IV.), created a Baroxet 1 Sept. 1628; d. Jan. 1644, having m. 1st, Jlillicent, dau. of Sir Robert Clerk, Knt. of Goodcaster, Essex, baron of the exche- quer, and had 2 sons, [1] Robert, o. v. p. 30 April, 1636, having m. Theodosia, dau. of Sir Robert Chester, Knt. (she re-m. to Sir Francis Theobald, of Ipswich), and had 2 sons; his male line failed on the death of his grandson. Sir Robert, 5th Bart. 1722. [2] Thomas, of Duxford, Camb.; m. Jane, dau. of Thomas Ventris, and had a son, Thomas. SIR THOMAS m. 2ndly, Catherine, dau. of Sir Robert Chester, Knt. of Ockenhatch, Herts, (royal descent). His 3rd wife, Elizabeth, was buried at Newport, 25 Aug. 1686. By his 2nd vdte he had with other issue a son, [3] GeofErey, of Kneesworth, co. Camb.; d. 9 May, 1687, aged 64, having m. 1st, Elizabeth, dau. of Sir WiUiam Luckyn, Knt. of Essex; she was bur. 25 Nov. 1664; he m. 2ndly, Dorothy, dau. of Sir Guilford Slingsby, Knt. comptroller of the navy (Bart.) By his 1st wife he had a son, Edward, of Kneesworth; bp. 27 Aug. 1658; d. 2 July, 1723, having m. Anne, dau. and eventual sole heir of Sir Arthur Slingsby Bart, of Canterbury, and had issue. He did not claim the Baronetcy on the death of the 5th Baro- net in 1722, and it remained dormant imtil (1797) claimed by his great-grandson, viz.: SIR EDWARD, 6th Baronet (son of Gamaliel Nightingale capt. R.N. descent recorded in the college of arms); b. at Gosport 14 Oct. 1760; d. 4 Dec. 1804, having m. his cousin Eleanor, dau. and heir of Robert Nightingale, of Kneesworth (and his wife Mary, dau. of Charles Ethelston, of LondonV she d. 20 Jan. 1825, having had 5 sons and 2 daus.
