NOTE— The E(lit(jr has been unable to discover the heir pre- sumptive to this Baronetcy. It is said that Sir John Reid, of Barra, had a grandson, Thomas Reid, M.D. son of John Reid, of Barra. Dr. Reid assumed the name of Caldecott, and died at Bath, 15 Jan. 1802, leaving issue. Arms — Az. a stag's head erased or. Crest— A pelican in her piety. Motto— Nihil amanti durum. Eineaflp. SIR JOHN REID, of Barra, Aberdeenshire, created a BARO- NET OF Nova Scotia, with remainder to his issue male, 30 Nov. 1703 (son of Alexander Reid, of Barra), m. His only son, SIR JAMES, 3rd Baronet, died at Old Aberdeen, 19 Sept. 1772. ft) He is said to have m. thrice; one of his wives d. 28 Jan. 1759. He had 2 sons and 2 daus. (1) Sir John, 5th Baronet, b. 9 May, 1794; d. 27 April, 1844, having m. July, 1834, Janet, dau. of Hugh Mathie, Esq. of New Hall, Cheshire, and had an only surviving dau. Agnes, m. 13 Feb. 1868, to Stephen Smith Lowther-Crofton, vice-adm. R.N. (B. Crofton). (2) Sir William, 6th Baronet; b. 19 Aug. 1795; died on his passage from the Mauritius 20 Oct. 1845, aged 50. (3) Sir Alexander, 7th and present Baronet. (4) Mary. d. 10 July, 1862, having m. 1809, to Francis Shand, of Liverpool; bed. 1824, leaving issue. (5) Jean, d. 13 Dec. 1860, having m. to John Jeffryes, R.N. and had issue. His 3rd dau. Barbara Livingston, m. 29 Oct. 1862, to Capt. R P Heurv, R.M.L.l. (6) Barbara, b. 16 Feb. 1797. (t) Playfair states that this Sir James died 24 Sept. 1772, and was succeeded by his son Sir John, who died in London 9 Nov. 1773, leaving a son Sir John, 4th Baronet, above-named.
