SINCLAIE, (Sib) John Geobge Eose, "of Dunbeath, co. Caithness," lieut. -ith batt. Cheshire regt. grandson of (Sir) John Sinclair, | who assumed after 1842 the Nova Scotia Baro- netcy conferred 2 Jan. 1631, upon Sir John," 2nd son of George Sinclair, of Mey (3rd son of George, 4th Earl of Caithness, see below) ; the patent is not i-egistered, but is said to be limited to the heii-s male of his body, in which case the title expired in the person of the 1st Baronet. The pedi- gree given below is taken, as to its earlier part, from Douglas's Baronage ; and it is curious to observe that the eldest son, according to this pedigree, of the 2nd Baronet and his issue are passed over, and the Baronetcy assumed by the 2nd son James, while there are also several males whose descendants, if any, would be nearer than the BaiTack family. This Baronetcy seems also to have been assumed contraiy to Scottish law of descent by the issue of Sir William Sinclair, of Mey, the elder brother of the first Sir John of Dunbeath.
