BHUR.
(96)

AN aboriginal race of Hindostan, called also Rajblmr, Bhurat, and Bhurpatwa. Their original seat is traditionally stated to have been the whole country from Goruckpoor to Bnndlekund, and a tract in Benares is from them called Bhurdoi, corruptly Bhadoi. Many of the old forts, and other constructions in the Benares and adjoining districts, are ascribed to them.

They are further described under No. 84. Here it will suffice to say that they are employed in the lowest vocations, and especially as swineherds. They are reported to be acquainted with the places where treasure is or has been hidden.
