RECORDS OF THE FEDERAL CONVENTION 50 Wednesday JOURNAL September It was moved and seconded to postpone the consideration of the report in order to take up the following. "He shall be elected by joint ballot by the Legislature, to "which election a majority of the votes of the Members present "shall be required: He shall hold his office during the term of "seven years: but shall not be elected a second "time"-- On the question to postpone it passed in the negative. [Ayes--2; noes--8; di- vided- x.] It was moved and seconded to strike out the words "if such number be a majority of that of the Electors" which passed in the negative. [Ayes -- x; noes-- It was moved and seconded to strike out the word "Senate" and to insert the word "Legislature" which passed in the Negative [Ayes--3; noes--7; divided- ?.] It was moved and seconded to strike out the words "such majority" and to insert the words "one third." which passed in the negative [Ayes-- 2; noes-- 9.] [To strike out the word "five" to insert "three" Ayes -- z; noes -- 9.] 2 It was moved and seconded to strike out the word "five" and to insert the word "thirteen" which passed in the negative. [Ayes--2; noes--9.] It was moved and seconded to add after the word "electors" the words "who shall have balloted" which passed in the negative. [Ayes--4; noes- 7.] It was moved and seconded to add after the words "if such number be a majority of the whole number of the Electors" the word "appointed" which passed in the affirmative [Ayes--9; noes- z.l It was moved and seconded to insert after the words "The Legislature may determine the time of chusing and assembling the Electors" the words "and of their giving their votes" which passed in the affirmative The House adjourned Vote 44% Detail of Ayes and Noes.
