A BOOK COMPACT OF BRILLIANCE, HUMOR AND SUSPENSE

The SPECIMEN CASE
By
ERNEST BRAMAH
Author of
"Kai Lung's Golden Hours," "The Wallet of Kai Lung,"
"The Eyes of Max Carrados," etc.

Is there such a person as Ernest Bramah? So much skepticism has been expressed both in England and America that in an amusing preface to this book Mr. Bramah appears in person, so to speak, saying finally: "There is one thing I can do and thus confound the non-existers—I can produce both a 'Kai Lung' and a 'Max Carrados' between one pair of covers, and here they are."

But these are only two of the specimens in "The Specimen Case," which is exactly what its title implies, a collection of every kind of story Mr. Bramah has ever written, and indeed, of almost every kind of tale ever written. (Naturally he picks the best of each kind).

Here, then, is the bizarre misfortune that befell Mlle. Celestine Bon in the matter of two lovers; here is the return of the Roman soldier to Britain in the hour of Britain's need; and here is a 120,000 word serial told in one-thirtieth of its original length! In brief: Twenty-one stories, the pick of thirty years' work by a literary artist who confesses to the slowness and care with which he writes, and whose work testifies by its perfection to the manner in which it is wrought.
