王孫賈問曰、與
其媚於奧、寧媚
於龜、何謂也。子

代、郁郁乎文哉、
吾從周。

CHAPTER XIII.

1. Wang-sun Chia enquired, "What is the meaning of the saying, It is better to pay court to the god of the hearth than to the god of the hall?" 2. " Not so," answered Confucius, "He who sins against Heaven has no where left for prayer."

CHAPTER XIV.

The Master said: "Chou had the advantage of surveying the two preceding dynasties. How replete was its culture! I follow Chou."
