BALVENY CASTLE 387 THIRD PERIOD of Athol, " Furth Fortuin and fil thi fatris/' both of which ornaments point out this part of the building as belonging to the time of the Stewarts, Earls of Athol, dating from the middle of the fifteenth century. The entrance gateway still retains its double iron-grated gate or "yett/' and in the vaulted entrance passage there are the usual stone seats. Adjoining this on the left is the guard-room. FIG. 334.
