      Take! Ah, Brand, thou'lt nothing find

Thy memories and thy moans thou hast,
Thy longings and thy sinful sighs——

Agnes.


[Despairingly.]


I have my heart of agonies!
Tear, tear it from me!

                       Thou hast cast
Thy offerings in the yawning deep
For nothing, if thou count them losses.
