AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MAJOR TAYLOR

It was a good job, newspaper men agreed, but a most risky one as I put great confidence in my jumping him in the last twenty-five yards. I had intended to pass him in the middle of the turn but he swung so wide it was impossible for me to carry out my plan, so I had to disappoint him in the last few yards of the race. The result of this race gave me the undisputed claim to the title of Champion Match Rider of America.

Although Fenn was a Connecticut boy and naturally a big favorite in Hartford my victory over him was a very popular one. I considered this match by all means my outstanding success of the season.
